Indiana Cicero (Ind.) members Christina and Beverly VanMeter used their artistic abilities to enable kindergarten Sabbath schoolers to visualize and experience what the people in South American rain forests experience. A rain forest was created in the Sabbath school room, utilizing shaggy bark, insects, reptiles, and hanging moss in the trees. One branch housed a six-foot boa, leering at anyone standing near. Under the tree, a stream contained a half-submerged alligator, frogs, lizards, and other critters.
The sound of dripping rain and forest noises from the tape recorder made the scene more life-like. A thatched hut with tropical birds singing nearby helped to create the feeling of jungle living. The children enjoyed this environment for three months and learned to better understand the experiences shared in mission stories from this area of the world.
