Allison Nowack, a junior speech pathology and audiology major, has taken advantage of some of the opportunities that Andrews offers. Last summer she traveled to China and Tibet on an Andrews University history and political sciences study tour to learn about the history, culture, and economy of the two countries. That spirit of adventure has led her to a high level of involvement in planning and assisting with worship services in her home congregation at Pioneer Memorial Church (PMC). Besides teaching earliteen Sabbath school and participating as a greeter and a deaconess, Allison also serves on the Second Service Worship Committee and the Nominating Committee.
Along with her ministry roles at PMC, this year Allison is more involved on campus, serving as the vice president of the speech pathology club and working with the campus ministry Action . She also volunteered for the American Cancer Societys Relay for Life 2006.
Allison lives in Berrien Springs, Michigan, and attended high school at Andrews Academy. She strongly values Christian education because she said, Ive learned to see God in other people and to experience Him for myself. Having a Christian education has prepared me to be a speech therapist and to [be aware of] peoples needs, so I can serve them.
Andre Weston is currently enrolled in his junior year at Andrews University, working to obtain a B.A. in English with a writing emphasis and a minor in journalism. He has quickly embraced the opportunities to be involved in ministries and other extracurricular activities at Andrews.
This is Andre's third year as director of Street Ministries; he coordinates all of the door-to-door programs for Outreach. He also uses his talents to write articles for the Cardinal, the Andrews yearbook; serve as the copy editor for the Student Movement, the school newspaper; and carry out tasks as the secretary-treasurer for Nu Sigma, the English honors society.
Two teachers who have made a strong impression on Andre are religion professors, Lael Caesar and Glen Russell, because they really care about the spiritual development of their students. He also considers his mother to have been a spiritual pillar in his life.
Last summer, Andre worked as a boys counselor at Camp Wakonda, an Adventist summer camp in Wisconsin, and he would love to be employed there again. His long-term goals include traveling and doing mission work his first year after graduation, then getting a job as a technical or a speech writer, and hopefully one day becoming an author of Christian fiction.
