JANUARY 2019

 

BENSON, Dorothy J. (Hale), age 88; born June 12, 1930, in Highland Park, Mich.; died July 2, 2018, in Ashland, Wis. She was a member of the Ashland Church in Ashland. Survivors include son, Don Robert; daughters, Karen D. Ruppert, Gailee Benson and Julie Ann Brilla; brother, Robert Lee Hale; sister, Gloria J. Nicotera; 11 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren. Graveside ceremony was conducted by Pastor Myoung Kwon. Inurnment was in Roberts Funeral Home Cemetery, Ashland, Wis.  

 

BULLOCK, Luella M. (Chaffee), age 83; born May 2, 1935, in McCluskey, N.D.; died Sept. 11, 2018, in Flint, Mich. She was a member of First Flint Church in Flint. Survivors include her husband, Larry Bullock; son, Michael Chaffee; sister, Clara Heitzman. Memorial services were conducted by Pastor Jonathan Chitwood. Inurnment in Flint, Mich. 

 

BYLSMA, Harold, W., age 89, born July 7, 1929, in Flint, Mich., died Oct. 7, 2018, in Grand Blanc, Mich. He was a member of the Holly Church, in Holly, Mich. Survivors include his sons, Wayne and Wesley.  Funeral services were conducted by Wayne Bylsma and Pastor Daniel Ferraz. Interment was at the Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly. 

 

CRARY, Ronald Franklin, age 83; born, Dec. 24, 1934, in Madison, Wis.; died Sept. 13, 2018, in Grants Pass, Ore. He was a member of Grants Pass Church in Grants Pass. Survivors include wife, Sylvia Jean Crary; son, Mark (Janell) Crary of Columbus, Wis., and Tim (Stephanie) Crary of Wolf Creek, Ore.; daughters, Andrea Crary (Fred Lehmann) of Renton, Wash., and Faith Charaba (Kenny McMahan) of Harrison, Tenn.; 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Memorial services were conducted by Pastor Charles Byrd. Inurnment was in Grants Pass. 

 

HALL, Cheri Jill (Grahn), age 70; born, Aug. 15, 1948, in Madison, Wis.; died Oct. 23, 2018, in DeForest, Wis. She was a member of the Madison East Church in Madison. Survivors include son, Kyle; stepson, Nate Hall; stepdaughters, Connie Schmidt and Ella Hall; brother, Larry Grahn; sisters, Loyala Grahn and Janie Pauls. Memorial services were conducted by Titus Naftanaila. Private inurnment followed.  

 

HANNAH, Bonnie Jean, age 99; born Feb. 2, 1919, in Nevada, Iowa; died Oct. 12, 2018, in Berrien Springs, Mich. She was a member of Pioneer Memorial Church in Berrien Springs. Graveside services were conducted by Dwight K. Nelson. Interment was at Rose Hill Cemetery, Berrien Springs. 

 

HILIKER, Jerome D. “Jay”, age 91; born July, 20, 1926, in River Rouge, Mich., died March 20, 2018, in Petoskey, Mich. He was a member of the Hillsdale Church in Hillsdale, Mich. Survivors include his wife, Carolyn (Hayes); son, James; stepsons, Rick Echola and Gene Dixon; daughters, Michele Lovill and Jane Haywood; stepdaughter, Anna Holeman; brothers, Ollie and Fred. Funeral services were conducted by Pastor Michael Wise. Interment was at the Winterfield Township Cemetery, Marion, Ind. He served in World War II and was highly decorated for his service. 

 

McKEE, Annie M. (Morris), age 91, born May 2, 1927, in Brady, Texas; died July 5, 2018, in Jasonville, Ind. She was a member of the Lewis Church in Lewis, Ind. Survivors include sons, Jerry L. and Steve A.; daughters, Linda K. Crosby, Gwen M. Gonzalez, Kathy D. Eldridge, Patty S. Dyer and Peggy L. Sowers; 22 grandchildren; 62 great-grandchildren, and 16 great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted by Elder Herb Wrate and Elder Vialo Weis Jr. Inurnment was in Stephens Cemetery, Lewis. 

 

MEYER, Helen C., age 84; born June 25, 1934, in Ottawa, Ill.; died June 10, 2018, in Battle Creek, Mich. She was a member of the Battle Creek Tabernacle Church in Battle Creek. Survivors include her husband, William H. Meyer; daughters, Rebecca Easton and Sallie Meyer; sister, Arlene Mertel; and one grandchild. Funeral services were conducted by Pastor David Austin. Interment was in Oakwood Memorial Park Chapel Cemetery, Ohawa, Ill.  

 

MOSES, Ellsworth M., age 92; born May 1, 1926, in Clearwater Lake, Mich., died Nov. 17, 2018 in Minocqua, Wis. He was a member of the Clearwater Lake Church in Eagle River, Wis. Survivors include his wife, Nancy (Smith); sons, Monte C. and Kevin S.; daughter, Beth (Lemaster). A memorial service was conducted by Pastor Jeanmark A’Kessler. Inurnment was in Clearwater Lake, Wis. 

 

PEDERSEN, Francis, age 91, born Jan. 3, 1927, in Copenhagen, Denmark; died Sept. 1, 2018, in Wausau, Wis. He was a member of the Clearwater Lake Church in Eagle River, Wis. Survivors include his wife, Luella (Wesby) Pederson; stepdaughters, Jeanne C. Fowler and Gail S. Cress; eight grandchildren; 22 step-great-grandchildren.  Memorial services were conducted by Jeanmark A. Kessler. Inurnment was in Clearwater Lake Cemetery, Eagle River, Wis.  

 

RAINERI, Maria (Dublin), age 69; born Jan. 16, 1949, in Germany; died Oct. 16, 2018, in MacFarland, Wis. She was a member of the Madison East Church in Madison, Wis. Survivors include son, John; daughter, Marcy Konemann; brothers, Tom, Rich, Joe, Michael and Paul Raineri; sisters, Chris Dublin, Jeanette Gunsteen, Sophie Tobias, Teresa Pappas and Anna Nichols; and five grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted by Titus Naftanaila at Highland Memory Gardens in Madison. Interment was in cemetery in Cottage Grove, Wis. 

 

SCHROEDER, Patricia M. (Armstrong), age 84; March 17, 1934, in Cambridge, Wisconsin; died Nov. 2, 2018, in Madison, Wis. She was a member of the Woodland Church in Milton, Wis. Survivors include sisters, Dorothy Simes, Sarah Wachter and Roberta Edwardson. Memorial services were conducted by James VanArsdale. Inurnment was in Elkhorn, Wis 

 

WOODARD, Winefield, age 97; born April 7, 1921, in Gary, Ind.; died Nov. 10, 2018, in Gary, Ind. He was a member of the Mizpah Church in Gary. Memorial services were conducted by Pastor Leeroy Coleman. Interment was in Gary.

ACKEN, Janice E. (Wery), age 76; born Feb. 26, 1942, in Green Bay, Wis.; died July 4, 2018, in Green Bay. She was a member of the Green Bay Church in Green Bay.  

Survivors include her husband, Gerald Acken; sons, Carl and Brent Acken; brother, Tom Wery; and two grandchildren. 

Funeral services were conducted by Paul Demuth.  

 

CHAMBERLAIN, Barbara M. (Bassham), age 70; born Jan. 13, 1948, in Lincoln, Neb.; died July 21, 2018, in Berrien Springs, Mich. She was a member of the Pioneer Memorial Church, Berrien Springs.  

Survivors include her husband, Larry Chamberlain; son, Jonathan; daughter, Mindy Wade; brother, Don Bassham; and four grandchildren.  

Funeral services were conducted by Pastor John Glass; interment was in Rose Hill Cemetery, Berrien Springs, Mich.  

 

CURTIS, Clair W., age 78; born May 31, 1940, in Bellevue, Mich.; died July 16, 2018, in Byron Center, Mich. He was a member of the Wyoming Church in Wyoming, Mich.  

Survivors include his wife, Linda (Dykstra) Curtis; daughters, Karen Caswell and Kathe Kok; sister, Joyce Monroe; and six grandchildren.  

Memorial services were conducted by Mark Caswell and Pastor Dan Rachor in Byron Center, Mich.; interment in Byron Center, Mich.  

 

DENLER, Virginia H., age 95; born March 23, 1923, in Duluth, Minn.; died June 25, 2018, in Spring Lake, Mich. She was a member of the Clearwater Lake Church in Eagle River, Wis.  

Survivors include brothers, Julian, Arnold, Loren, Leland, and Veryl Denler; and sisters, Darlene Brooks and Angeline Froemming.  

Graveside services were conducted by Ray Cress at the Clearwater Lake Cemetery; interment was in Eagle River, Wis.  

 

DREW, Howard W., age 87; born March 3, 1931, in Bloomville, Wis.; died June 20, 2018, in Berrien Springs, Mich. He was a member of the Pioneer Memorial Church, Berrien Springs.  

Survivors include his wife, Lorraine (Schenk) Drew; son, Kevin; daughter, Karen Pierson; and ten grandchildren.  

Memorial services were conducted by Pastor Dwight K. Nelson; private interment.  

 

JORGENSEN, Cecil R., age 80; born March 22, 1938, in Waushara County, Wis.; died July 4, 2018, in Berrien Springs, Mich. He was a member of the Pioneer Memorial Church, Berrien Springs.  

Survivors include sons, Cecil R. II, Roger Lee and Peter Jorgensen; stepsons, Dewey and James Carlson; daughter, Cecilia Gregory; brother, Eugene; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.  

 

LEDESMA, Enrique (“Rick”), age 55; born Dec. 14, 1962, in New York, N.Y.; died June 15, 2018, in St. Joseph, Mich. He was a member of the Pioneer Memorial Church, Berrien Springs, Mich.  

Survivors include his wife, Janet (Ortiz) Ledesma; son, Christian E.; daughter, Ariana C.; mother, Natividad (Velasquez). 

Memorial services were conducted by Dr. Carl Bannister, Dwight K. Nelson, Pastor José Bourget; private interment.  

 

MATACIO, Lauren R., age 68; born Oct. 29, 1949, in Waupaca, Wis.; died July 30, 2018, in Ypsilanti, Mich. She was a member of the Pioneer Memorial Church, Berrien Springs, Mich.  

Survivors include stepdaughter, Jamie Berlin; brothers, Doug and Tim Matacio. 

Memorial services were conducted by Pastor Jose Bourget; private interment.  

 

WILKENS, Robert A. (“Bob”) Jr., age 79; born July 19, 1938, in Wauseon, Ohio; died July 2, 2018, in Battle Creek, Mich. He was a member of the Pioneer Memorial Church, Berrien Springs, Mich.  

Survivors include his wife, Fran (“Becky”) Watkinson; stepdaughter, Jackie Hilderbrandt; and sister, Jean Bermingham.  

Memorial services were conducted by Pastor Skip MacCarty; interment was in Rose Hill Cemetery, Berrien Springs, Mich.  

 

WILLIAMS, Martha M. (Budd), age 84; born Dec. 2, 1933, in Crawsfordville, Ind.; died Sept. 25, 2018, in Ooltewah, Tenn. She was a member of the Cedar Lake Church in Cedar Lake, Mich.  

Survivors include her husband, Ralph Williams; sons, Steven, Randall and Dale; daughters, Janean Mason and Arlene Leavitt; 12 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.  

Funeral services were conducted at Collegedale Memorial Park; interment in Collegedale, Tenn.

CARPENTER, Wilmena R. (Lyons-Nichols), age 80; born Aug. 9, 1937, in Takoma, Wash.; died April 2, 2018, in Langsburg, Mich. She was a member of the Charlotte Church, Charlotte, Mich. Survivors include her husband, Bruce R. Carpenter; sons, Dean and Todd; daughters, Cindy R. Kempl and Julie A. Matyasic; stepdaughters, Nancy G. Sheppler, Cathy J. Kallioinen and Cris T. Carpenter; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; and four step-great-grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted by Jerry Schmidt; interment was in White Chapel Memorial, Troy, Mich. 

 

DELL, Joan E. (Garland); born in St. John's, Newfoundland, died June 24, 2018, in St. Joseph, Mich. She was a member of the Stevensville Church, Stevensville, Mich. Survivors include her husband, Richard Dell; daughters, Shari Teschke and Linda Stocker; brothers, Walter Garland and Bob Garland; and four grandchildren. Memorial services were conducted by Bob Garland.

 

JAECKS, Lenard D., age 85; born March 21, 1932, in Wausau, Wis.; died June 25, 2017, in Chattanooga, Tenn. Survivors include his wife, Lois (Iattoni); sons, Steven and Dr. Ronald; sister, Virginia; and three grandchildren. 

 

KEMPF, Kathryn (Gersonde), age 97; born April 5, 1921, in Gobles, Mich.; died May 27, 2018, in St. Joseph, Mich. She was a member of the Stevensville Church, Stevensville, Mich. Survivors include daughters, Renee Coffee, Karen Swenson and Kim Hakeem; sister, Julie Little; seven grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. Memorial services were conducted by John Baxter; private inurnment. 

 

KONKEL, David W., age 79; born Oct. 4, 1938, in Phelps, Wis.; died July 19, 2018, in Phelps. He was a member of the Clearwater Lake Church in Eagle River, Wis.  Survivors include his wife, Marilyn (Follett) Konkel; daughter, Darlene Suddeth. Memorial services were conducted by Rick Peters. 

 

REED, Annette Louis (Mallen), age 75; born March 15, 1945, in Oujda, Morocco; died July 29, 2018, in Grand Rapids, Mich. She was a member of the Urbandale SDA Church. Survivors include her husband, Lewis Reed II; daughters, Laura VanOrsdall and Rebekah; sister, Elizabeth Royce Miller; and two grandchildren. Memorial services were conducted by Pastor Jerry Schmidt; inurnment was in Battle Creek, Mich. 

 

SANDERS, Myrna (Haley), age 79; born Dec. 7, 1939, in Dowagiac, Mich.; died March 24, 2018, in St. Joseph, Mich. She was a member of the Glenwood Church in Dowagiac. Survivors include her husband, Steve Sanders; sons, Rick Lillie and Doug Lillie; daughters, Vicky Lillie, Autumn Nelson and Cindy Yeoger; brother, George S. BYSLSMA, Alma Ruth (McClure), age 87; born Aug. 11, 1931, in St. Charles, Mich.; died Aug. 22, 2017, in Holly, Mich. She was a member of the Holly Church.  Survivors include her husband, Harold Bylsma; sons, Wayne and Wesley; and sister, Jean Ellen Hirchenberger.  Funeral services were conducted by Wayne Bylsma and Pastor Daniel Ferraz; inurnment was in Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly, Mich.  

 

DRAKE, CAROLYN A. (Cockrell), age 92; born July 12, 1925, in Columbus, Miss.; died May 7, 2018, in Crown Point, Ind. She was a member of the Mizpah Church, Gary, Ind. Survivors include sons, Anthony Cherry, Richard Cherry and Michael Drake; daughter, Tyra Waddell; brothers, Samuel Cockrell, Joseph Cockrell and Travis Cockrell; sisters, Dorothy Walker and Yvonne Keen; 18 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren. Memorial services were conducted by Pastor Leeroy Coleman.  

 

GRAVES, Lester "Buzz" E., age 89; born Sept. 9, 1928, in Yuba, Wis.; died April 10, 2018, in Waukesha, Wis. He was a member of the Waukesha Community Church in New Berlin, Wis. Survivors include his wife, Shirley J. GUY, George Herman, age 87; born Dec. 18, 1930, in Lola, Kan., died April 22, 2018, in Lawton, Mich. He was a member of Weslaco Church in Weslaco, Texas. Survivors include his wife, Jane (Conrad) Guy; daughter, Janetta Steffen; son, Jonathan and James; seven grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Memorial and inurnment will happen at a to-be-determined date in Kansas.  

 

KINMAN, Dixie M. (Brown), age 73; born Sept. 27, 1944, in Marion, Ind.; died June 26, 2018, in Fort Wayne, Ind. She was a member of the Marion Church in Marion. Survivors include her husband, Larry W. Kinman; son, Roger W.; daughters, Dian and Joette; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Funeral services were conducted by Matthew Hasty; interment was in Riverside Cemetery in Gas City, Ind.  

 

KOEPKE-BLOCK, Catherine M. (Kiestra), age 89; born June 13, 1928, in Grand Rapids, Mich.; died May 15, 2018, in Shelby, Mich. She was a member of the Shelby Church in Shelby. Survivors include sons, James and Andrew; stepson, Daniel Block; daughters, Suzanne Hazlett and Sandra Hazlett; stepdaughter, Cathy Vredevoogd; nine grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.Funeral services were conducted by Ron Mills; interment was in Hubbard Cemetery in Montague, Mich.   

 

SAUNDERS, Richard Eugene Sr., age 91; born Aug. 17, 1926, in Edgerton, Wis., died June 24, 2018, in Janesville, Wis. He was a member of the Madison East Church in Monona, Wis. Survivors include his wife, Jacquelin (Goodman) Saunders; sons, Richard Jr. and Donald; stepsons, Greg Minier and Mike Minier; daughters, Pamela and Beth (Phil) Saunders-Buss; 15 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted by Titus Naftanaila; interment was in Prairie Mound Cemetery in Oregon, Wis.  

 

SCHMID, Walter P., age 92; born Oct. 12, 1925, in Detroit, Mich.; died March 30, 2018, in Clinton Twp., Mich. He was a member of the Warren Church, Warren, Mich. Survivors include his wife, Doris Schmid; son, Walter Jr.; daughters, Tina Bailey, Margie Tarnacki, Sandy Van Damme and Paula Pyles; brothers, Jacob Schmid and Richard Schmid; nine grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted by Pastor Cory Herthel; internment was in Resurrection Cemetery, Clinton Twp.
