The Lake Union Herald earned eight national awards in the annual journalism contest sponsored by the Associated Church Press.
In the ACP’s “Best of the Church Press” competition, the Herald claimed the Best in Class honor as one of the top three magazines in North America for the second time.
The prize was presented at the faith-based journalist group’s convention in Toronto on May 15.
“Spanish articles, digging deep to find unique stories and perspectives, focusing on what is happening in local churches—compelling,” the ACP judge commented on the Herald magazine, which is produced for the 90,000 Adventists in the Great Lakes region.
The contest, governed by the ACP’s board, admitted over 700 entries among nearly 90 categories. Each category is allowed an Award of Excellence (First Place), an Award of Merit (Second Place) and an Honorable Mention (third place). These entries were judged by a jury of Christian professionals from across the country. Awards are conferred on faith-based publications that best exemplifies the high standards of excellence in writing, design, video production and service to its denomination.
“We are humbled by these awards,” said Lake Union Editor Debbie Michel. “They speak to the excellence God has called us to do and it encourages us to keep on sharing stories of how God is moving in our territory.”
