The Lake Union Conference has launched a new immigration resource website to support members, pastors and churches seeking guidance during a time of uncertainty for many immigrant communities.
The website, immigration.lakeunion.org, was developed as a centralized hub for immigration-related resources. The site offers practical tools for individuals and families, as well as resources for churches and members who want to provide support.
“We are really concerned about how we can support those going through crisis because of the immigration situation that exists here right now in our country,” said Carmelo Mercado, Lake Union vice president for Multicultural Ministries.
Among the resources available are “Know Your Rights” cards, which summarize basic legal rights when dealing with police or immigration officials; emergency planning materials, including family checklists, childcare and document guidance, and downloadable emergency plans; and legal help links to organizations such as the American Immigration Lawyers Association, World Relief Immigration Legal Services, USCIS and Welcome.US.
The site also includes resources for families experiencing separation due to detention, along with emotional and spiritual support, including Scripture, short prayers and pastoral encouragement for those facing fear or disruption.
A confidential prayer wall allows individuals to submit anonymous prayer requests.
“Our immigrants really need our support, even among our own members, who are going through uncertainty about whether they will be here or be deported,” Mercado said. “We’re hoping through this resource that we can provide the kind of support and engagement for pastors and members both.”
The resource hub is now live at immigration.lakeunion.org.
