The Conscience and Justice Council (CJC) will host its Annual Convention from September 18-22, 2024, in St. Louis, MO.
The theme, “10 Years After Ferguson: Walking or Talking,” will reflect on the progress and challenges since Michael Brown was shot and killed on Aug. 9, 2014, by a police officer in Ferguson, Missouri. The unarmed Black teenager’s death at the hands of police sparked massive protests and put the city in the national spotlight.
“In remembering what happened in Ferguson 10 years ago,” said Edward Woods, Lake Region Conference Public Affairs and Liberty Director, as well as co-founder of the Conscience and Justice Council, “we are reflecting and being proactive to ensure that it never happen again.” He added, “We need to do more than just prayer in valuing the sanctity of life for everyone.”
The convention will offer sessions on various social justice issues, with speakers including community leaders, legal experts and faith leaders. Topics will cover the true meaning of diversity, equity and inclusion and critical race theory; civic engagement; generational trauma, and more. Keynote speakers include Michael Brown, Sr., Pastor Marcus Cosby, Pastor Michael Pfleger, Alicia Odewale and Moya Harris.
