Emma Berniece Denslow passes away at 88

Emma Berniece (Berni) Holton Denslow, mother to Lake Union president Ken Denslow, passed away in Chattanooga, Tenn., on December 23, 2021. 

Berni was born near Saginaw, MI to Violet Robbennolt (née Twomley), and Russell Holton on April 11, 1933. She attended Adelphian Academy in Holly, Michigan where she met her husband Alden Denslow. In addition to raising four children, she worked as a secretary, a transcriptionist, an office manager, a school librarian, and a substitute teacher. She loved working with youth and volunteered as a youth department leader and Sabbath School teacher and worked at church youth camps as a cook. Berni and her husband served as missionaries for 10 years in Peru. After retirement, they served as volunteers for 3ABN, a Christian television network. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Alden Denslow, and brother, Max Holton. She is survived by siblings Stan Holton (Rose Smith), Carol (Roger) Gantz, and Lonnie (Cathy) Holton, as well as her children, Sandy (John) Lindquist of Ooltewah, Tennessee; Kenneth (Patricia) Denslow of Berrien Springs, Michigan; Richard Denslow of Zephyrhills, Florida; and James (Wanda) Denslow of Mineral Bluff, Georgia. Berni was the grandmother of 7 and great-grandmother of 12. 

A memorial service is planned for Saturday, March 19, at the McDonald Road Seventh-day Adventist Church, 5440 McDonald Rd., McDonald, TN 37353. The service will also be livestreamed through the church’s website: https://mcdonaldroad.org/live-stream/
