Gregory C. Baker died on Feb. 5, 2023 of natural causes, in Miami, at the age of 63.
His death was announced on Facebook by his nephew Carlin Alford, who noted his uncle’s rapid decline in health in the last few months.
Baker was the former treasurer of Lake Region Conference from Sept. 1997 to Aug. 2003. Prior to this, he was the associate treasurer for the Lake Union Conference from Nov. 1995 to Oct. 1997 and had served as treasurer for the Southwest Region Conference.
A visionary during his time in Lake Region, he enhanced multiple buildings and facilities on the grounds of Camp Wagner in Cassopolis, Mich. This started with the building of cabins 100-600 to include bathrooms and heating/air conditioners.
He also saw the need for the cafeteria to have air conditioning and bathrooms added to the building, and as such spearheaded that renovation project by adding an extension to the area where the bathrooms are now; he sided the building and added an air conditioner unit. He also built the current camp office in its present location.
