The largest number of teams in the history of the Lake Union Pathfinder Bible Experience has advanced to the union level. With 34 teams participating this year compared to 22 teams last year, the Lake Union has experienced a 35% growth.
According to the Union PBE Coordinator Craig Harris, “Parents want kids to have the Bible experience. Many who were Adventurers, grew up watching the Pathfinders participate and now it is their turn.”
The challenge for Pathfinders to memorize specific books of the Bible has been around for years. This program has gone through different name changes from Bible Bowl, to Bible Achievement, and for the past 10 years, Pathfinder Bible Experience. Despite the program not being mandatory, youth have been inspired to join.
During this week’s executive committee meeting, lay pastor Ray Cook commended the Union Youth Director Ron Whitehead, along with the conferences’ youth directors and local youth leaders for the work they are doing with the Pathfinders. He said, “We as adults could learn something from these young people.”
Jason C. North, Lake Region Conference Youth & Young Adult ministries director shared, “I’m amazed at how dedicated these young people are to memorize the Bible. Many have said it has already helped them turn their grades around. They are realizing that learning the Bible is both spiritual and practical.”
