Pathfinders and Adventurers Spread Kindness Through Road Rally

On Saturday afternoon, April 12, 2025, the Paw Paw Seventh-day Adventist Church’s Pathfinders, Adventurers, and supportive adults laced up their shoes and hit the town for a unique event: a Road Rally.

Much like a scavenger hunt, the Road Rally was designed to help participants learn more about their community while spreading joy and goodwill along the way. Teams were given a series of creative tasks and destinations, from taking crayon rubbings of biblical names on tombstones, to locating a specific Bible using the Dewey Decimal system at the public library, to handing out Glow Tracks, to singing “Jesus Loves Me” on a downtown street corner.

The fun didn’t stop there. Each team was equipped with six roses to give to strangers and a box of cookies labeled “for those who help others.” The simple gifts led to heartfelt moments and unexpected blessings. One woman, grieving the loss of her dog earlier that morning, was moved to tears by the thoughtful gesture. Residents at White Oaks Assisted Living were delighted by their young visitors, while patients at the local hospital were cheered by the surprise flower deliveries.

One stop was at Eleanor’s Pantry, the community free food store that the Paw Paw Seventh-day Adventist Church significantly supports with donations and volunteers. Frequently, Eleanor’s Pantry is mentioned during church announcements and updates, but few members know where the store is located. Having it as part of the Road Rally allowed participants to see the store and learn more about it ministry from its director, Sue Miller.

Perhaps one of the most memorable moments happened in a Wal-Mart parking lot, where a woman was so touched by the young girls who gave her a rose that she handed them $30 to buy ice cream. Instead, the girls chose to donate the money back to the Pathfinder club. At the fire station, grateful firefighters thanked participants with a tour of their facility in exchange for the cookies.

The Road Rally concluded with all teams sharing their stories, pictures and videos. “This was such a great way to spend a Sabbath afternoon. Not only was it fun for all ages, but it made an impact on others too!” participant Wendy Gonzalez said.

This event was not just enjoyable, but deeply impactful — a beautiful example of how small acts of kindness can ripple through a community. The Pathfinders, Adventurers, and all those involved reminded Paw Paw that love, service, and joy are always worth sharing.
