The Historic Shiloh Church is planning to host a major live experience in Chicago on March 23, 2024.
It will feature Jesus riding through "Jerusalem" on a real donkey and an estimated crowd of 1,000 guest receiving Him. Members and volunteers will reenact scenes described in scripture and the Desire of Ages for the Passion of Christ.
The event has garnered the support of the city and everyone participating will be in costume. The police department will be in place with horse-mount officers dressed as Roman soldiers. There will be a marketplace for family activities and every station encounter will point the visitors to Jesus' great sacrifice. Shiloh has even organized for a cafe to provide food for every person that attends. The event will be held indoors and outdoors to accommodate the community and weather consideration.
Chicago's 6th Ward Alderman William Hall will join Shiloh pastors John Boston and James Doggette in a charge and end the production with an appeal for those that would like to accept Christ into their lives and be baptized.
The entire church is involved in the process but the effort is led by the Children's Ministries team of Shiloh. This innovative form of evangelism is designed to engage the community in an unusual way. “Many residents on the South side of Chicago have never been this close to live farm animals and a production that takes over the whole street,” said Pam Daley, Shiloh’s Children’s ministry leader. “We want the children and families in our community to know how much Jesus loves them and His plan to come back soon.” Daley added that the church has been ministering to the children in the community every week and this event is going to be “a life-changing encounter for some of these precious souls.”
This project is a major undertaking which needs many more volunteers. They are seeking volunteers across the Lake Union to bring their skills, time and presence to help make this unique evangelistic encounter a success. Builders, sewers, bakers and any other skills are invited to register now and a team member will reach out to get you involved.
